He is risen, indeed!!
Happy Easter my fellow chums!
Hope some can rise to the occasion today after much feasting through the weekend and resurrect like Christ did on the third day.
Speaking of beings/things rising, Elon Musk has stirred up the debate around free speech with his takeover bid of twitter.
This topic is very complicated and the nuances abound as it brings up questions of:
Definition of Free
Principles of Free Speech
What is the Private sphere?
What is the Public square (shared spaces; virtual and physical)?
Consequences of Actions/Speech
Content Moderation
Right of private companies
Jurisdiction where company and individual is residing
What constitutes hate speech/threat
Company policies and rule violation
All the listed questions can be posed in either the consumer/user point of view or the company/institution operating in open/public commerce.
Trust me, it gets convoluted once you begin pondering the nuances.
In essence, absolute free speech is impossible if not unattainable. What seems to be under discussion is where to draw the lines and what will be the new or a return to the old set of rules?
This is an ongoing debate and one I will definitely be paying a close attention to. This is in line with digital and data rights that are not yet concluded in many countries.
I leave you with Elon Musk’s interview on TED speaking about his thoughts on Twitter and content moderation.
Albeit, in his usual vague and overly discombobulated rhetoric.
See you tomorrow!
