Nuclear War is not a bluff!
The prospects for peace look really dim now yet we see many brainless warmongers spout the narrative that Putin is escalating out of desperation while high fiving themselves on a job well done.
But Is he desperate? Or merely upping the stakes?
On the one hand, their military strategy appears to have failed but on the other hand, there is now a concerted consensus between the President of Russia, Russian generals and defense ministers on the way forward.
Evident in parts of his statement:
“In this situation, I consider it necessary to take the following decision, which is fully adequate to the threats we are facing. More precisely, I find it necessary to support the proposal of the Defence Ministry and the General Staff on partial mobilisation in the Russian Federation to defend our Motherland and its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to ensure the safety of our people and people in the liberated territories.”
This proposal is the mobilization of 300,000 troops inside of Russia. To put it in historical context, this announcement is the third time in history that Russia has declared a military mobilisation. The previous two were in 1914 and 1941.
… the Russian militarists, upon hearing of the Austrian ultimatum, at once jumped to the conclusion that war was ‘inevitable,’ [and] began secret military preparations and urged ‘general mobilization’ at as early a date as possible…. [I]t is also clear that ‘partial mobilization’ against Austria was a mere diplomatic ‘bluff’… Henceforth the army leaders, recognizing that partial mobilization was folly on account of the technical and political difficulties involved in it, exerted steadily increasing pressure for general mobilization, and the danger was that… the Tsar [would] consent to the final military step which would probably make general war inevitable.
—S B Fay, The Origins of the World War (1938)
This is a pivotal moment for modern history.
In the addressed statement, President Putin reiterated that Russia would “certainly use all the means at our disposal” to defend itself, alluding to the use of nuclear weapons, adding “it’s not a bluff”.
Together with the upcoming referendums in the two Donbass republics and two regions of Ukraine currently controlled to a large extent by Russian troops, once certified will be Russian territory. Which proves that Ukraine vis a vis NATO is at war with Russia on Russian soil.
From Charlemagne via NeoReactor,
The war is currently taking place entirely within the state of Ukraine. Russia is fighting against a NATO-backed Ukraine, inside of Ukraine, but the Ukrainian army is not on Russian territory. Much like Vietnam, where the Americans fought against Chinese-backed Communists and Russian pilots, the conflict was “safely” contained to Vietnam itself, avoiding a World War situation. Russia may be fighting against American mercenaries, American generals, American intelligence, and Americans weapons, but these objects of war are not being used directly against Russia itself. This is going to change as soon as these territories become directly incorporated into Russia, like Crimea. Ukraine will be de facto at war with Russian, no declaration needed.
Back to Putin’s own words:
“After the Kiev regime publicly refused to settle the issue of Donbass peacefully and went as far as to announce its ambition to possess nuclear weapons, it became clear that a new offensive in Donbass – there were two of them before – was inevitable, and that it would be inevitably followed by an attack on Russia’s Crimea, that is, on Russia.”
So yeah things are looking grim to put it mildly.
How do you think the West responded?
With an incoherent speech by the president of the United States, ramping up more NATO weapons for Ukraine, and all the while absolving themselves of any responsibilities and causality.
Like the US/NATO also hasn't violated the UN charger countless times.
So in essence, similar to schoolyard politics where the covert aggressor finger points while saying “it’s not us, its them,” “we are the good guys.”
Interesting to see what the Donald had to say on this,
So yeah, more of the same towards their stated goal of a protracted conflict and actual world war.
See you tomorrow!
