Well written and researched article, Ope. Today my favorite flirt at the Farmer's Market told me that, next to religious texts, the most popular book in Nigeria was Machiavelli's Prince. And self-help books, in which that may be included. I don't know if that's true but it seemed to fit with the scams and hustle culture.

Thank you. I did not know that The Prince is really popular but it makes sense, i can confirm that 48 laws of power by Robert Greene is also very popular. Yes there is an unhealthy habit to seek for easy answers in self help books, ready made "solutions" on the premise of fixing everything and myopic (positive is that it indicates good intentions just misguided). There is a direct correlation as to why majority gravitate to religion as the ultimate answer to life.
